Swedish experts may have found out the real magic in milk. Researchers confirm that a substance in human milk has the ability to eliminate cancer cell.
A substance called HAMLET or Human Alpha-lactalbumin Made Lethal to Tumor cells) which was discovered years back was recently tested for its effectiveness with humans.
A study was made in a university in Sweden where bladder cancer patients were subjected to HAMLET treatment. Patients who received HAMLET rid themselves of dead cancer cells passing through as urine. The good and healthy cells were not affected by the treatment.
The breakthrough gives hope that HAMLET will be utilized to develop treatment medications for cancer in the future.
The HAMLET substance was discovered by accident years ago when researchers were looking into the antibacterial components of human breast milk. It was found out that HAMLET consists of protein and fatty acid which are naturally occurring in breast milk. It has not been proven though that the HAMLET spontaneously forms in breast milk.
Experts are also looking into possibilities that HAMLET may form in the stomach of babies which are naturally acidic. Experiments so far have confirmed that HAMLET can kill around 40 cancer cells with ongoing evaluations for skin cancer, brain tumors, and cancers on the mucous membranes.
Another study in Germany looks into how HAMLET can be directly used for uptake of tumor cells.
