Don’t you wish that you can lose weight by eating some foods? Truly there are delicious ways on how you can shed off those extra pounds. Here are some foods you can add to your food plan:

Pears

According to experts, put in a lot of pears to that fruit bowl and you will be losing pounds. A recent study found out that women who had three pears per day had lower calorie intake and also chopped off more pounds than others who did not eat pears. One pear already packs about 15% of you recommended intake of fiber so it really helps you from overeating.

Grapefruit

Eating half of a grapefruit prior to a meal may help in losing weight. Experts have identified a compound found in grapefruit which helps control insulin which is a hormone used by the body for fat storage. Any food which can lower the body’s insulin can help in losing weight.

Almonds

A handful of this nut plus a healthy diet can help zap off fat. A recent study had participants losing 18% of their body weight after eating almonds everyday for 6 months. Those who followed a diet and substituted almonds with other types of food with the same calories lost around 11%. You can snack on them or chop them for your yogurt or oatmeal.

Chocolate

Dark chocolate in particular can help the body prevent the storage of fat which is a precursor to obesity and heart disease. One good snack recipe is to melt some dark chocolate and make it a yummy spread on some graham crackers.

These beans are packed with fat burners in the form of resistant starch. When you eat food that has high contents of resistant starch for at least one meal in a day, you can burn a good amount of fat, about 25% more than you will do without it.

Good habits for a flatter abs

Nov 21 2011

Exercise BallLike most people, you might also be aiming for a six pack abs or just a good toned, flatter abs. If you are doing you’re the conventional abdominal exercises then you also know that they tend to be boring. Here are some fun ways to achieve that better looking abs:

Two-Second Posture Check

Instantly make your abs look flatter by changing your posture. Try to move your hips closer to your ribs, drop the tail bone a bit and you will be pulling that belly flat. When walking try to tuck your tailbone under so you will not hurt your lower back and at the same time make your tummy look flatter.

V-Sit on your office chair

Instead of staring at the computer while it’s booting, spend your time wisely by doing some office chair exercises like the v-sit. The V-sit firms up your midsection. You can do this by scooting a bit forward to the edge of your chair while leaning back. Then you lift your one leg up, bringing it back to the floor, and lifting the other leg. Do this several times. Check your abs if they are engaging properly during the exercise.

Gum on the chair

No you do not have to put a gum on your chair but pretend that there is a gum on the back support of your chair so you will not lean back. Lift your abdominals up and try to relax the shoulders.

Use an exercise ball

Stay balanced on an exercise ball while doing some work on your desk. Aside from working out your abs, you will also boost your focus. Sitting or lying on an exercise ball engages the muscles of your core.

Most Common Childrens Health Issues

Oct 18 2010

Children are one of the most delicate creatures on the planet.  They suffer from everything and anything, including many diseases that adults never have any problems with.  However, due to their small size and early staged immune system children often have a more difficult time than adults with many disease.  Here are a few of the most common children’s health issues.

childrens healthThe first common issue that many children end up dealing with is a sore throat.  This can be brought on by a virus itself, or by a wide variety of other medical issues.  Most of the time, allergies or another underlying cause are to blame for the throat becoming inflamed.  There are many different treatments out there, but some people will simply not be able to avoid getting these!

Children often have problems that are considered to be the common cold.  While children do catch many cold’s because they are young and have not built up an immunity to them, some children do have serious problems that need to be treated by a doctor.  The most common problems to occur in a child that mimic the symptoms of a cold are chronic sore throats and adenoid issues, headaches, constant fever.  All of these issues could be pointing to a more serious condition with the child and if they continue on a regular basis or are high enough they need to be address right away.

Not Getting Pregnant – Possible Responsible Factors

Sep 20 2010

Most of the time, there are arguments over when to have or not to have kids. It is something that needs proper care and consideration. However, for some couples, planning is not enough when they tend to find out that they cannot become parents. The reasons can be any and many. So, in this piece of writing, I have decided to specifically highlight some reasons and possible factors behind a woman not getting pregnant.

pregnancy issuesInfertility could be caused and improvised in both males and females depending upon the age group you belong to and the region of the world you are living in at the moment. It wouldn’t only have effects on your body physiologically but the factor also shatters a person from within the mentality that they cannot continue on with their generation simply because they are impotent and incapable of doing things. Sometimes, people still have hopes and expectations of getting through the procedure of fertility treatments and certain medications.

Responsible factors behind a female not getting pregnant could be more than one and numerous. It could be due to the fact that the female ovules and oviducts have a complicated system from within. Any hassle or irregularity could make it more prone to getting damaged and effected. Ovulation is said to be the main thing behind the infertility for women because the menstrual cycles are complex to some extent. In some females, the ovules are not properly developed and matured which is why they receive inconsistent reproductive cycles and thus, have difficulties in getting pregnant. Ovulation also prepares the uterus for a possible pregnancy to occur; if the phenomenon doesn’t occur at the right time, it would have negative effects in both fertilization and copulation.

Five-Minute Colon Cancer Test Might Help Prevent Death from the Disease

Aug 15 2010

According to a report from London, a five-minute “flexi-scope” test might just reduce the occurrences of death because of colon cancer by at least 40%. This test requires the insertion of a tube the size of a pen into the colon so that the doctors can pinpoint and remove small polyps.

The subjects used for this test are individuals in their 50s. It is important to note that the government in the UK doesn’t fund colon cancer screening for individuals younger than 60 years of age. The test just needs to be done once and it could already the chances of dying from colon cancer by 43%.

Can your Blackberry Drive You Insane?

May 20 2010

Before we begin, let’s just make it clear that this isn’t a black propaganda against Blackberry phones. Neither are these findings directly linked to the Blackberry brand. However, it can’t be denied that a lot of people are seriously addicted to Blackberry models and other similar cell phones which allow us to access the internet 24/7. Below are reasons (which may be good for a laugh) why your Blackberry may just drive you nuts.

Anticipation spells addiction

If you find yourself anticipating random text messages from people, you may just be addicted to your Blackberry. Sometimes being connected to people 24 hours a day isn’t such a good thing—not if it affects your productivity at work and your sleeping patterns. Some people lose track of the concept of “free time” and “work time” because they’re so glued to their Blackberries. You prioritize trivial things over factors that actually matter.

Losing out on sleep

Before cell phones were invented, only the TV kept us from sleeping early. Now, aside from television shows and the computer, internet-connected phones like the Blackberry beckons to us as well. People are addicted to communicating with each other that they give up hours which are supposed to be spent on sleep just to chat with someone or exchange messages through their Blackberries.

Radiation risks

Never mind insomnia. There’s also a huge possibility that too much cell phone usage can cause brain tumors. When you’re with your cell phone the whole day like it’s as vital as your liver, you’re inadvertently exposed to cell phone radiation. While research studies about this are still conflicting, majority of the studies still lean on the damages that cell phone radiation can cause to your brain.

When Worrying is a Good Thing: How a Little Anxiety can Benefit You

Apr 11 2010

It has already been established that depression and anxiety are two very different things. While depressed people are not necessarily suffering from anxiety problems, the two can occur at the same time. A group of researchers also found out that a certain type and level of anxiety can actually counter the negative effects of depression. In some cases, depressed subjects, when worried, perform better thinking patterns.

Using fMRI or functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, subjects who were depressed and not anxious, depressed and worried, and depressed and panicky were tested. They were given word tasks to monitor their brain functions, and it was found out that subjects who were depressed and panicky performed very differently from depressed subjects who were worried but not fearful.

By a mile, depressed subjects who only had low levels of anxiety were actually able to block out the emotional meaning of the words and they were able to focus on the surface value or “color” of the words given to them. For some reason, low levels of anxiety counteracted with depression to stabilize the brain functions of depressed subjects.

Cholesterol level rises with too much selenium intake
